Five PA's lead by 6021 lead the westbound City of San Francisco a couple of miles east of Roseville in the early 60's.

Based on the physical condition of these units, I'm thinking this is 1966 or 1967? SP was "letting them rust and fade" in the final years when replacements (SDP45) were ordered.

Could be as late as early 1966. SP 6021 was retired 4/20/66 (source: Cortani, Lloyd and Strapac, 1975).

Sorry for not having a date for the photo. The early 60's were a blur to me as it was a time where my Special Purpose ran my brain. I know one thing Uncle Sam grabbed my A** in early 1965 till 1967 so it wasn't any of those years as I was in South America. I know the vehicle to get there was a 1956 Oldsmobile a friend of mine had.

As the youngun's say O-M-G!

It's always great to see color photos of trains I am used to seeing in b&w.

Where's the smoke? Is this train moving or stationary?

It was definitely moving I remember jumping out of the car and barely getting the shot. Smokeless Alcos were a rare sight.

Coasting downhill, so no smoke.
