OWRR&N (UP) Caboose 3505 at Boulder

The OWRR&N (UP) wooden caboose no. 3505 has been restored to its all-yellow glory at Boulder, Nevada, at the Nevada State Railroad Museum. The all-yellow photo was taken this morning by Greg Corbin, the museum director. The red photo was taken back in July 2010, and the black & white photo shows the caboose before it was rebuilt. It was classed by UP as an N.C.S. caboose, meaning it was "Not Common Standard" from the Harriman era of Associated Companies.

OWRR&N 3505 built in 1882 by predecessor road Oregon Railway & Navigation in either the company's shop in Albina (Portland), or at The Dalles. It was retired in January 1962 and was donated to Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah. BYU donated it to the Wasatch Railway Museum and Foundation and it was part of the Foundation's first equipment move to Heber, Utah in December 1970, pulled by UP 2-8-0 618.

The caboose was sold to Nevada State Railroad Museum in February 1993 and moved to Boulder City, Nevada in 1994. The caboose at Boulder has been confirmed as being the former OWRR&N 3505, by lightly sanding the many layers of paint over the end door.

Nicely done. Is it really the same car as in the B&W shot? Certainly alot of changes if so.

What was the purpose of that bent iron support running from the frame up to the porch roof? It looks like it was intended to do more than hold up the roof.
