Re: Banks wigwag restored and operable

Video doesn't seem to play. Too bad the railroad was ripped out and the ROW was turned into a bike path. Too many of these "Rails to trails" scams going on. Turning a use full resource into a playground is not my idea of progress. These are destroying our infrastructure and turning our country into another Disneyland.

Thanks for the news Chris. Good to see that this project is completed, any word on
the interpretive signs that are planned for display?

Count me as one who appreciates this trail and the fact that it now reaches Banks OR.

Hear, hear! We're going to regret tearing up so much of the country's most fuel efficient means of moving freight.

Video is working now but I noticed the bell on the wig-wag is not working. After all of the money spent on restoring this, they could at least fix the bell. What is this world coming to?

The bell is being struck by the clappers, but is isn't adjusted correctly, there are rubber rebound stops that the clappers hit just before contact with the gong. If they are hard from age, or missing, you get the clunk you year in the video rather than a clean ding. Someone who has not maintained them on a RR would not know that.

Finally somebody that knows the truth. I want a "clang" instead of a "clunk!" This turned out to be one clunker!

When I installed the restored banner last June, I asked them if they wanted the bell adjusted. They said no because they didn't want to bother the neighbors. I couldn't really argue with that. Wigwag bells that are adjusted properly can be quite loud.
