Heading east again. Vacation 1987-Pt 2
Author: SP6190

July 14, 1987. Today we head from Denison Texas to Ft Smith Arkansas, so we are up and about fairly early. After breakfast, it's down to the tracks and see what we can find.

#!-2 Not much. We did find Katy #7 sitting all by itself, waiting for it's day to begin.

#3 Over at the MoPac the MP 3268 & 2254 were just hanging around waiting for something to do.

#4 Action. A Katy empty coal train heads north out of the yard at Denison with the 621 leading three BN units.

#5 We caught up to the 621 at Colbert TX (?)

#6 At Durant OK we shot the UP 3596 heading south on the old MP.

#7-8 We caught up to the MKT 174 near Caddo OK, as it slowed to make a set-out. One of the cars in it's consist was the SP 338120 covered in graffiti. In 1987 no less.

#9 At Sallisaw OK we found a set of KCS local power sitting on the connecting track between the KCS and UP/MP.

#10 We made a quick trip over to Ft Smith to see what was there and get a motel. We found the UP 2100 sitting in the UP yard at Van Buren AR.

#11 We heard a southbound on the KCS, so headed back to Sallisaw. We got there just before the KCS 602 came through with a loaded coal train.

What a fantastic Katy lash-up in shot #7! Some good luck catching SD40-2 621 leading that coal train, every time I ran across M-K-T and BN mixed, it seemed the Burlington Northern was always on the point!

Picture 10 looks to be the U.P. yard in VAN BUREN, AR instead of FT. SMITH. U.P. has no yard in Ft. Smith, they come over to Arkansas River into Ft. Smith from Van Buren with interchange traffic to the Ft. Smith Railroad and Arkansas & Missouri Railway.

Sorry about that. Change has been made. Thanks
