Nostalgia & History > Valley Division Vignettes Part 1Date: 11/03/12 23:03 Valley Division Vignettes Part 1 Author: lamta_jay During my time living in the southern San Joaquin Valley I TRIED to record as much branch line activity as I could. I had no idea what the service used to be so my slides started in 1980 until I vacated the Valley in 1999
I called the branch lines , "Rails less traveled" #1.....I believe this is a Oil City District Local with GP50 # 3830 in 1989 #2.....This is the short lived local out of Corcoran to Visalia. The train was the Bakersfield-Corcoran Turn...with a side trip to Early California Foods in Visalia. In this picture it is departing Visalia about to cross Walnut. These tracks are no longer here.1991 #3.....A Ducor Turn waiting at Oil Junction for its turn to get in the hole at Saco. This was the only time I saw a GP7/9 on this train. More to come Thanks for looking Jay Date: 11/03/12 23:59 Re: Valley Division Vignettes Part 1 Author: Railfan4Christ Great stuff and great memories. I guess now I will have to dig out the slides from Porterville and scan them. Lived there from 1981-1993. I have always appreciated the pictures from this area.
