Nostalgia & History > New Haven passenger car in New MexicoDate: 11/05/12 05:52 New Haven passenger car in New Mexico Author: valmont I shot this on Mar. 22, 1993 in Santa Fe, NM, but don't have any history, nor know what happened to it. Figured it became a Santa Fe Southern car, and if so is it still around?

No idea what's become of the car, but a quick guess on ancestry is it's from the New Haven's "State" series of 6DR-lounge cars that served on the State of Maine, Montrealer, Night Owl and other overnight runs in New England. The rectangular shadow below the windows is consistent with the New Haven's practice of attaching metal plates with the company logo. Dave Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/05/12 06:38 by DavidP. The car would look better, and not take up use able space. There is a car on the Fremont, & Elkorn Valley Dinner Train, which was ex SP 10-6 sleeper originally built for the San Fransisco Overland I believe , that had the same thing happen to it. This was a historic car originally in the two-tone gray and a blunt end car.I realize its who ever owns car and they can butcher it up any way they want, but for someone who wants to make an open platform on the rear end of the car, and make it look authentic, they should use the B-End or vestibule end. There are numerous examples of cars converted to open platform cars and professional jobs usually turn out good.

the as-built vestibule is the bedroom end notice they did not move the collision posts on the new platform end, which can be an expensive mod Date: 11/05/12 10:02 Re: New Haven passenger car in New Mexico Author: joemvcnj Since it looks likea P-S car, is the (remaining) fluted stainless just sheathing or structural ?

Hopefully an new corporation looking at developing luxury passenger service in the US will become aware of this car and be able to return it to service at Pullman-Standard and the New Haven intended. As is, it is really a sad sight. Date: 11/05/12 12:10 Re: New Haven passenger car in New Mexico Author: SunrayRanch D.F. Barnhardt had the listing when I toured the car two years ago this past fall. Interior is OK, but not what I would want in a rail car. The interior ceiling has noticeable water damage. The skin & fluting has several large rust areas. I was told by the oversight manager, who lives in Pueblo, that a widow in Texas owns the car. They were asking $60M at that time.

3210-Keystone State 3211-Bay State 3212-Pine Tree State 3213-Nutmeg State a11 were built in 1955 by P-S Date: 11/05/12 13:20 Re: New Haven passenger car in New Mexico Author: tcpearson I saw the car at one of the AAPRCO (American Association of Private Rail Car Owners)conventions years ago. The interior reminded me of an RV. It was built in Worcester, MA in 1955 at the Pullman Osgood Bradley plant. As an earlier post said, it was a 6 bedroom buffet lounge. The exterior sheets are a single sheet of stainless from the roof line to the side sill and are unlikely to rust. A rebuild would be merciful.

For 60M you could build several new cars. The rest of the world and the press use K and M respectively for thousand and million. I had a feeling that this would come up again. I will use the actual words from now on.

Usage of "K" and "M" for thousand and million, respectively, comes from the science and engineering world. I think the bankers need to get with it. Best regards, Rob L. Date: 11/06/12 09:25 Re: New Haven passenger car in New Mexico Author: AZSP Actually the M is from Roman numberals for thousand. And MM (a thousand thousand) is a million
