Nostalgia & History > 32 years ago at Riverside Jct., California.Date: 11/08/12 18:47 32 years ago at Riverside Jct., California. Author: Alco251 A Union Pacific caboose moves through the switch at Riverside Jct., Calif., on November 17, 1980, carrying the markers of a UP (LA&SL) eastbound freight entering the AT&SF Third District for the trackage rights run over Cajon Pass to Daggett. This was just a few weeks before crews demolished the remains of Santa Fe's Riverside Tower, seen in the background. Within two years, Santa Fe crews were busy surveying an area about a mile from here to create a new junction, called "West Riverside." The new junction eliminated street running and slow trackage for UP trains as they joined Santa Fe rails. Photo by David R. Busse.

KC Date: 11/08/12 21:06 Re: 32 years ago at Riverside Jct., California. Author: Alco251 The SP crossing was long gone. I moved to Riverside May 19, 1980 and spent much of my free time in Cajon...as the winter light approached, I began exploring right in my own back yard. One day I drove to work and the tower was gone. Glad I got at least a couple pictures of it (as a hulk...it had been closed for a while).
