Nostalgia & History > CN westbound at Jasper 1973Date: 11/08/12 21:35 CN westbound at Jasper 1973 Author: photobob A lone SD40 with white flags flapping in the wind is about to arrive at the Jasper Yard. An outside braced wood boxcar with a roof brake wheel and a wood sided stock car are the lead cars on this train. Can you imagine seeing cars like those on a mainline train today? What a beautiful area to photograph trains in.

How common was it for CN to use the "One Unit Wonder" on trains through the Yellowhead? I know the grade wasn't much, but I still feel better as an engineer if I've got at least 2 units--I've had too many times when one goes down. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/09/12 06:25 by DrLoco. I'm pretty sure the AAR had banned roof walks in interchange service by 1973 - not sure if and when Canada followed.
