Eastbound at Westminster approaching St.Paul Union Depot. Looks to be the Western Star.

Location is eastbound at Westminster Tower in St Paul, about a mile from SPUD. Picture was taken from Lafayette St.

Depressed double track mains on each side of GN's 4 track main are both Northern Pacific. East Side Line on the right tunnels under the wye to Omaha's East St Paul Yard, West Side Line tunnels unde GN mains to join up with East Side Line at Mississippi Street.

Hard to tell.I blew up the photo as large as possible.
They look like USAF cars.Possibility going to Minot,ND.

more likely coming from Minot on the eastbound Star

My shot, Western Star at the location above. June 1968 while at the third WGRF. USAF missle something or other on the end of the train. No longer have the slides or I'd post the going away shot. them were the days.......

you had a good third WGRF, I posted a shot of a short GN passenger train back on 11/3/12 and you shot that at the 3rd WGRF!

My namesake train! Loved those SDP45's, especially back to back.

As noted, eastbound from Minot or Grand Forks.
IIRC, this was the SAC bomb scoring train. SAC
would use this train to test bomb crews on
accuracy. This is what I remember being told,
don't ask me how they did that. The cars often
ran through the Twin Cities to various locations.

As for the BSB SDP's, well, everyone has their
own taste. Personally, four matched F7's in
Omaha Orange would be much preferable, even in
the simplified scheme.
