Canopener Bridges

Many of you have probably watched some of the videos of the numerous trucks and RV's being peeled open beneath the NS's 11-foot 8-inch bridge Durham, NC, this inspite of warning lights along the three blocks before that bridge. Do you have a low clearance under the tracks in your locality? Perhaps you have a photo you'd like to share. Thanks!

My favorites are on the ex-SP in San Mateo, CA. The one pictured in this thread by shed47 has a measly 8 feet 6 inches ma-ma-max headroom:

Evan. now that's a low clearance. I believe I have seen one under eight feet, but that location eludes me right now.

7th St. SE in Calgary, AB has a bridge with 6' 6" clearance under the CP main. Here's a few images from Google Street view, note the "Canopener/Truck" warning sign on the southbound approach!

Eeesh. Hope the basketball team doesn't have to walk under that one. "A guy walks into a bar...OUCH!"

Reply: Now that makes the bridges on the Erie Canal seem high. Just how in the world did they get the paving machine and steam roller under that one!!!

Probably a good thing Google didn't send the streetview car under that bridge...

Love Lake Rd goes under both the UP and Portland & Western and has a 7 ft clearance. Its just north and a bit east of Junction City. In the winter, there's often a foot or two of water there as well.

The streetview car evidently came up on the bridges, but didn't try to go under them:

The Clinton Street viaduct here in Defiance under the very busy CSX Garrett Sub is 11'9", it is the main drag through town and takes out a truck about once a month. A recent study on lowering the roadway revealed that between 1999 and 2009 79 trucks have hit the viaduct.

Work is slated to begin next year on the project. http://www.crescent-news.com/local%20news/2010/11/01/city-lands-state-grant-for-s-clinton-viaduct

As a former truck driver I was trained when in doubt pull the truck close then stop and look! Its not that hard.
