Date: 11/18/12 19:44 Re: A WP Oops. Author: railstiesballast Sure looks like a grade crossing collision damaged the lead unit, and not some little sedan either.
Date: 11/18/12 19:52 Re: A WP Oops. Author: billmeeker WP920D was destroyed in this accident. There was apparently a switch improperly aligned, and talk of vandalism.
Date: 11/18/12 20:54 Re: A WP Oops. Author: tomstp Is the 2nd unit a SD-45? I didn't know WP had any of them.
Date: 11/18/12 20:57 Re: A WP Oops. Author: RplusLJetService They didn't...it's a NP pool unit.

Dick Samuels Date: 11/19/12 11:20 Re: A WP Oops. Author: BrianA A closer look reveals the ex-NP SD45 is BN 6421, (3621 on the NP) Had no idea that the 6421 had been in any derailment before now. In later years I photographed the 6421 in BN green and noted that the red warning nose light was gone, perhaps as a result of this derailment?
BN managed to wreck a lot of WP power so I guess WP found a way to get back at them. Wonder if WP had to repair it or if was sent back to the BN damaged! Anyone know what the rest of the power consist was? Guessing there was other BN power involved. Brian Ambrose Renton, WA Date: 11/19/12 18:37 Re: A WP Oops. Author: billmeeker BrianA Wrote:

You are correct that BN was responsible for wrecking a good number of WP locomotives in the 1970's! Date: 11/19/12 21:04 Re: A WP Oops. Author: sierrarailroad1897 Just Walk it off...

Apparently the 3 BN units didn't suffer a whole lot of damage and were all rebuilt. Brian |
