Being home for 10 days in May...and seven days in December 1977, gave me more time than usual to photograph Cincinnati railroads in 1977. Posting of some of these images will be divided into B&O, L&N, and Southern. First, B&O.

1. Classic B&O caboose on local, Glendale, Ohio 23 May

2. St Louis-bound manifest departs Cincy, running adjacent to Penn Central's ex-NYC Riverside Yard.

3. Someone must have found a fresh can of B&O blue amongst all the Chessie System yellows, etc. Freshly painted GP38 #3846 heads west through Saylor Park, along the banks of the Ohio River. 14 May

4. West of Saylor Park, GP40 #3846 raises dust (literally) as it accelerates west. That's PC (ex-NYC, Big Four) trackage to Indianapolis on the left. 14 May

5. Later the same day I lensed this northbound coal unit train passing through Glendale. The entire train consisted of Missouri Pacific hoppers! That's B&O's depot on the right. 14 May

6. A Southern Pacific unit joined the Chessie System and B&O painted units in the consist.

7. In December B&O GP30 #6973 approached RH Tower. The classic signal bridge, erected in the 1920s, was removed by CSX in 2004.

8. Oops! This one almost got away. This is that westbound freight depicted above. GP38 #3846, after picking up a cut of cars at Storrs Yard, is beginning its trek west. That's the Ohio River in the background, the original destination of the B&O when it headed west out of Baltimore in the 1830s. I was particularly pleased to find a "clean" B&O unit in fresh blue paint on the point of this train.
