For freight units there was an all-black scheme between the blue&cream and the gray&yellow, but I don't know what to make of 820.

They're all Tom Smart photos; around Louisville in early 1960s

From that I understand the very first scheme at least on the Alcos was black but not the one depicted here.

Top two are most definitely Memphis - top photo at L&N's Leewood Yard and second photo at IC's South Yard. Most likely shot by Bill White. No idea where the third photo was taken but there was a period of time freight units got a solid black scheme. The L&N's GP18's were delivered in black.

In 1958, L&N adopted an austerity color scheme as shown in the third photo. Freight units were all black and passenger units were dark blue. Only the letering and a new, round logo on the nose added any color. The engines quickly became eyesores with road grime and fading paint. It saved money and labor but looked horrible. I think the grey and yellow began to appear in 1962 but I could be wrong about that. However, L&N's first set of F's, an A-B-B-A set for pusher duty, were delivered in all black paint, too. They were quickly replaced by the cream stripe scheme as in the first photo which I think was very classy looking.
