Bi-level Metrolink cars spotted in Herington, KS
Author: JoCoLB

With the ground covered in a light snow, I discovered two Metrolink bi-level Metrolink passenger cars and a Southern Pacific Railroad Police caboose resting on a house track in the Herington, Kan., rail yard on Feb. 15, 1993. I was told that the special move was headed to the Los Angeles, Calif., area. I never did learn where the new cars were built and the delivery originated.

I believe all Metrolink Bombardier bi-levels where built in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. History quiz time: Cna anybody name the company that built the first batch of Metrolink cars in 1992 and was purchased/merged/bought-out by Bombardier later on.

The plates inside Toronto streetcars (or LRVs) show the following.

Developed by the Urban Transportation Development Corporation Ltd., Toronto, Ontario

Manufactured by Hawker Siddeley Canada Ltd., Canadian Car Division, Thunder Bay Ontario

Would the same apply to the early GO-style commuter coaches that Metrolink bought?

This is correct!!! I believe Metrolink referred to them as simply UTDC built cars but yes Hawker Siddeley built them.
