Benton County, where Monroe is, grows lots of Christmas Trees.

I think they still are transported by train but in trailers on flat cars. Much more interesting to see them in PFEs!

This has to be one of the coolest post to come along in a while. Just look at that! The best of everything all wrapped in one scene. SP, PFE, Oregon geography, Christmas trees, the greatest smell, and holiday traditions! Wow!
Only question is how did the PFE car become clean in those particular areas?

Here is how it is being done this year. I went up to Silver Creek Falls for a hike Sunday and the helicoper was working. The trees are cut and loose piled. The helicopter picks them up and puts them in a large dump truck. From the time the helicopter does a pick up, goes to the truck, returns, and starts the next pick up is less than 45 seconds. The truck takes them to were they are bound for shipment. Haven't seen any treees on I-5 this year. (doesn't mean they aren't there) I did see a "Interstate" long haul truck on the back road up there so that may be the way they are getting out.

Todd, any word on the future of this branch? I see that the Benton County Connect Oregon $$$ grant
to purchase wasn't successful. GREAT pictures. Christmas trees are a BIG business in Oregon. Arlen
