Nostalgia & History > Mystery Crane @ Cottonwood FallsDate: 11/29/12 12:21 Mystery Crane @ Cottonwood Falls Author: santafe199 In the summer of 1976 I made a journey down KS highway 177 to Wichita. It was one my first trips through the area as railfan, looking for photo opportunities. At Cottonwood Falls I found this rusting crane more or less buried in the weeds just south of the grain elevator, which is now long gone. I only took this one shot with my trusty 126 Instamatic and I can discern no markings at all. At the time, it never occurred to me to just pull the weeds back a bit. Younger & dumber, indeed.
Perhaps someone out there could ID this rusting hulk. I'm assuming it's of Santa Fe origin by virtue of sitting down the end of the mile long stub branch off the passenger main from Strong City to the north. Thanks, ahead of time... 1.
