Nostalgia & History > Some Grande-To appease the Snow Gods!

I know be careful what you wish for, but some snow ANYWHERE in Colorado sure would be nice right about now:}

1)Rio Grande GP40-2 3112 with Orange paint that looks more like what was applied on the ex-Conrail GP40's, leads the 3087, 3145, 3096 and 3083 East on train #220, the GJSLM at the E. switch at Leyden siding just West of Denver on February 17, 1990.

2)The #796 coal train departs Denver beginning its journey heading South towards the Joint Line on December 19th, 1989 with a nice one-of-everything consist! Four axle GP40-2 3126 is a bit out of place leading this loaded coal train that usually would have only six axle motors. The rest of the entourage includes Southern Pacific SD45T-2 9335, Santa Fe SD45-2 5846 and F45 5966 in the ill-fated SPSF scheme.

3)Typical of Grande grunge, GP40 3087 leads the #187 train Westbound approaching Tunnel #1 on the Moffat Tunnel line on December 16, 1989.
With the white color on the trucks, you can tell the sanders have been on to gain traction on the many curves and greasers located along this line as the 5 Geeps to their best to battle the elements!
