Could it be, "Norfolk Southern Railroad passenger train crosses the Albemarle Sound trestle in 1918." Wikipedia has a webpage, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albemarle_Sound

Is this a predecessor to the Key System crossing the estuary between Oakland and Alameda?

It's an SP steam commute crossing for sure. In Alameda I think.

I can't read the engine number but it definitely looks like Central Pacific #233. The locomotive is currently stored by the CSRM in the former SP Shops in Sacramento.

Wow. I have not seen too many photos of those Stevens 2-6-2Ts in operation! Seven of these little engines were built in Sacramento by the Central Pacific in 1881 under the management of Master Mechanic Andrew Jackson Stephens. They were used on the SP's commute operations in Oakland and Alameda until most of the lines were electrified.

Neat!
