The SP in Fontana
Author: miralomarail

It's hard to imagine it's already been 36 year's ! It's Dec 1976 And the ESPEE 2617 is going home.

But back then we see a SW-1500 heading home through Fontana, getting ready to cross Baseline Ave

The Tracks here are now long gone, and have become " The Pacific Electric Bike Trail "

The Fan's called them Cruds, because we hoped we would see something else then one of these, but the SP SW-1500's could pitch in and Run with the Big Kids on the Block with their Gear Ratio on their Trucks they could get up and go, many times a Manifest would stop outside of LA, the Road Power went else where and the SW-1500's took the train into LA

Nice shot, Tom. Funny thing about this exact spot it that even though it's been turned into the Pacific Trail, the vinyard is still there although surrounded by homes and other developement. I only live about a mile from this spot.-BMT

Can't be any worse than it used to be, we used to run Fontana Raceway nearly every weekend during their
season and Foothill was biker bars and suburban blight and that was two years after the invention of the
automobile (well at least ones with 409's and 413's).

Foothill Blvd. from Railto ( Rathole) to Etiwanda Ave is still full of Blight, the City of Funtucky has repaved Route 66, but there are so many closed up buildings

Go north to Baseline and Fontana is yuppiville from there to Devore. I can remember when you didn't willingly drive Baseline thru there at night if you weren't a local, and the police blotter suggests life was dangerous for the residents too. Only thing you had to worry about on Foothill at night was that 80% of the drivers were stone drunk, and the other 20% were dead drunk.
