Nostalgia & History > UP...Some Obscure GE unitsDate: 12/09/12 07:52 UP...Some Obscure GE units Author: PERichardson 1. 44-ton 903999 at Pocatello, ID 7-21-61
2. Cab unit 620 at Council Bluffs, IA 6/63 Ken Crist original. These were in Erie paint originally and were test beds for features that were on the U25B, when GE got into producing road units for the domestic market. And we know how that turned out. 3. Turbine #50 at Cima, CA when brand new. UPRR photo Date: 12/09/12 08:28 Re: UP...Some Obscure GE units Author: valmont "UP...Some Obscure GE units"
They sure are! Gotta love the 620's 'washboard' look! Date: 12/09/12 08:41 Re: UP...Some Obscure GE units Author: wmfan3798 OK I'll ask, anyone have any idea why the 44tonner has a six digit number?

Given that a GE designer styled the PA/FA, I'm surprised these didn't get a little more of a nose treatment than they did. Great to see colour shots of these as they don't surface very often. That would seem to be an F3 with the rear access door open and UP installed filters in the carbody. The dark stuff over the grey roof is part of a building in the background. I'd post but late getting to the airport. Will do later.
Re the turbine, the slide is from a 4x5 color negative the UP loaned to me many many years ago and the sleeve said Cima so I put that on the slide. I agree, it looks more like Kelso, not that I'd visited there back then. |
