Nostalgia & History > Espee F3s this timeDate: 12/17/12 18:25 Espee F3s this time Author: TonyJ This time I've selected a few images of Espee's Model F3s.
Photo #1 - Here is class engine SP6100. It was later transferred to the T&NO, becoming T&NO #300, and finally T&NO #624 after rebuilding to a F9M in 1956. It was vacated in 1968. Photo #2 - F3A SP6104 at an unknown location and date. (Seems like I should know the location.) It also was transferred to the T&NO, becoming their #308 followed in 1956 by rebuilding to F9M #611, It left the roster in May 1869. Photo #3 - SP6107 on another A-B-B-A set... as it should be, Those were great times. It became T&NO 314, and like the others on this page, it became another F9M. Thos one became #613 in Feb. 1956. It was vacated in 1968. Date: 12/17/12 19:49 Re: Espee F3s this time Author: lwilton I wonder why there were only two portholes on cab units but three portholes on the B units? The spacing of the two remaining portholes exactly matches the end portholes on a B unit, so it isn't a matter of the cab on the end compressing features on the side of the unit.

F3s are my favorite "F"s. For instance, those ex-NYO&W units that went to the SN. Or the F3s on the California Zephyr. Stan Date: 12/18/12 12:12 Re: Espee F3s this time Author: LV95032 Only two F3's remain in service as originally built. Both are in Scranton, Pa painted in Lackawanna colors.

But I stand to be corrected. Not correct. Hostler controls were at one end not in the middle. One of my first HO locomotives was Lacawanna F-unit in those colors. That was back around 1956. Date: 12/18/12 19:38 Re: Espee F3s this time Author: wchogger The MM&A has an ex BAR F7's which is inoperable (Missing traction motors) in their shop building tucked away from what I heard. There are three F3's left out of the hundreds built which is a shame.
wchogger Date: 12/18/12 19:41 Re: Espee F3s this time Author: sagehen Those Lakawanna units are beautiful! They look "stock" without modified pilots and ditch lights.

To me, the long pole is the give-away. However, I can't figure out if Colton had a freight building that close to the main line.
