The westbound "City of San Francisco" has just passed through Crockett California and has a few miles left till it arrives at Oakland 16th St.

Great period shot . . . I didn't know that The City had a full length dome . . . was that standard?

It's an SP homebuilt 3/4 dome, and it was regularly assigned.

Two were painted yellow for the service, until the silver/red scheme became the standard SP passenger scheme

Nice photo. Only one bridge in the background, a yard limit sign and, it looks like the dirt fill to the left is pretty fresh too.

Here's a little more information on the 3/4 dome on the City of San Francisco the dome car was pulled out at Ogden UT it didn't run east of Ogden on the UP.

Anyone know when SP did the line change
just west of the Crockett depot?

Indeed, the 2nd Carquinez Bridge was completed in 1958, and the date of the photo is said to be 1962.

Through summer of 1960 the domes were assigned to the secondary train over Donner - the Overland Limited - as it transited the Sierra in daylight while the City passed through largely in the dark. However, SP began downgrading #27/28, ultimately discontinuing those trains a couple of years later.
