Nostalgia & History > DM&E Waseca Pit StopDate: 08/01/13 10:16 DM&E Waseca Pit Stop Author: santafe199 In my short term of employment with DM&E I spent 2 weeks working out of Waseca, MN. I had spent the summer working out of Pierre, SD, the state capital. At Waseca you might say I was "seeing how the other half lives". I was considering trying hire on with Montana Rail Link (which I eventually did), but wanted to check out the eastern half of the DM&E beforehand. During those 2 weeks time I caught the 549 a couple of times. The 549 was the 1st engine to get pure DM&E paint & lettering. Here she is taking a drink Waseca...
1. DM&E 549 stopped at Waseca, MN on September 26, 1987. Thanks for looking back! Lance Garrels santafe199 Edited 4 time(s). Last edit at 05/21/22 23:37 by santafe199. Prior to my visit, whenever I was on the phone (from CA) with my counterpart there, I sometimes heard LOUD train horns that sounded like they were IN his office. Once I got on site, I understood why they sounded so close. When I was there, it was VERY distracting trying to get work done in an office in the Birds Eye plant which faced the tracks! Thankfully had some nice weather my last day, to the point where I had to HUSTLE in order to make my flight at MSP. I did Waseca a couple of times during CNW days. The engine facility was located in the southwest corner of the yard, and easily accessible without tresspassing. The former CNW depot, which housed the DME offices, is on the wright in this photo. It also appears the former M&StL diamond is still in, although all the trackage north of this spot was gone. Very nice shot, Lance, thanks for posting. Brings you back to old time railorading. MILW86A |
