Any image with may parallel lines (read: fluting for instance) will fool a scanner just like they do with digital cameras. Not sure why this is, but it is, so don't use that first image as part of your experimentation. Exposure is good though.

Try scanning at a higher resolution. I scan my slides at 4800 dpi.

Considering the size of TO file attachments, evaluating scans here may be a two-step process.
The first image would be overall, to look at exposure, color, etc.
A second image as an elargement of a small part could be enough dpi to tell us about sharpness.

(I am pleased with the small file size, here, my old hand held images and 110 format images don't reveal all their flaws, and they load quickly.
