Nostalgia & History > SP PA UnitsDate: 10/26/13 16:04 SP PA Units Author: 462pacific A question has arisen for which I do not have a definitive
answer: Does anyone know if any SP PA units were ever painted in the Black Widow scheme ? I only know and recall the Daylight scheme and the Bloody Nose scheme. While we're at it, how about the Golden State scheme? Thanks in advance to those who are in the know about such things. Date: 10/26/13 16:09 Re: SP PA Units Author: P5r24 None what so ever.
One PA got what they called the Halloween colors, all black with an orange nose splat. Experimental and didn't last to long, Gary Date: 10/26/13 17:30 Re: SP PA Units Author: ATSF3751 The PA's managed to elude the Black Widow scheme. Only one E9 was painted in BW. SP didn't go any further with it because it cost as much to paint the Black Widow as it did to paint 'em in Daylight. SP wanted cheap and easy.

PA-2 6039 Orange in the "bow wave" shape. PB-2 5922 Solid black. The Halloween scheme was applied from approximately March 1957 thru July 1958. A few locos were repainted in the older colors during that period. No new units were received in Halloween paint, but over 200 were repainted in less than 18 months.
