This shot is from 1975, and I do have info on it.

Wild a$$ guess... SP train compass-southwest-bound on the Golden State Route somewhere between Dalhart and Tucumcari.

I was going to say Wyoming somewhere, but I like this
guess a lot better. Single code line is the key, I
think.

My SWAG also says somewhere on the SP "Cotton Rock". Perhaps towards Liberal.

I think this is a Santa Fe shot. Probably on the plains of Eastern, NM.

Equipment suggests 1970s.

Perhaps a bit too grassy to be NM. Looks like KS to me, but I cannot render a specific location.

If its the Golden State Route, the train is the RI/LAEST running late in KS

I'm stumped. Have to rule out KS, OK and TX? because of jagged mountains visible in the distance. Looks like welded rail which was rare on the anything but the "transcon" mainline. Also, looks like single track, so east of Belen, NM? Finally, there appears to be a stand of grain elevators in the distance?

How about the plains of another state, one that would fit part of your sharp-eyed description ..."jagged mountains visible in the distance"?

There are a few guess candidates. One would be Colorado between La Junta and Trinidad. Looking Southwest, the pole line and mountains would be in the correct spot. There was welded rail west of La Junta but I'm not sure what year it was put in.

here's what's written on the slide mount:

ATSF 4016/4000/4006 mp 561.2 6.3 mi w La Junta, CO 3/1/75 wb

I'd say you nailed it ...

I would say, if it’s a Santa Fe....... a westbound east of Flagstaff, AZ about 50 miles.
If it’s SP.. I would say westbound, west of Deming, NM
Santa Fe is my first guess because the middle unit has a “gumball” light on the cab roof.
