That was when you could drive up to that searchlight, where the 2 tracks came back to one, and sit on that hill, and video as much as you wanted. It was great both times, and I haven't been back to California since. It ain't the same now, obviously.

There just isn't anything comparable to standing trackside at the loop when the cans came up the hill. The deafening sound of SD's in run 8, the ear piercing squealing sound the wheels made, the sight of those tired rusted old locomotives somehow pulling the train up the hill. I miss those days. Thanks for posting this video - it brought back a ton of great memories! |
