What is the pipe for that connects the tank cars?

Wonderful video! That's an awful lot of EMD muscle at work. Great sights and sounds. Thank you for sharing.

That flexible pipe allows a group of these so-called "Tank-Train" cars to be loaded/unloaded as a unit.

Great video and with a appearance from the Milwaukee Road doesn't get much better than that.

Twice during the later 90's, my wife and drove to California, with the primary purpose of going to Tehachapi. That was when you could drive up to that searchlight, where the 2 tracks came back to one, and sit on that hill, and video as much as you wanted. It was great both times, and I haven't been back to California since. It ain't the same now, obviously.

Sure isn't, but I'd be happy if someone actually caught that thing from tunnel 10! Miss those days though, SP and Santa Fe sure did put on one hell of a show!

In my opinion, one of the best railfanning experiences in all the U.S.- cans over Tehachapi.

Agreed! There just isn't anything comparable to standing trackside at the loop when the cans came up the hill. The deafening sound of SD's in run 8, the ear piercing squealing sound the wheels made, the sight of those tired rusted old locomotives somehow pulling the train up the hill. I miss those days.

Thanks for posting this video - it brought back a ton of great memories!
