Nostalgia & History > Green River WY 1959 Back AgainDate: 04/17/14 15:27 Green River WY 1959 Back Again Author: Fallbridge4449 My father marked his slide of the E-unit passenger train as the City of San Francisco. I'm not sure-as usual any comments or suggestions are welcome. Have a great weekend and thanks for for looking.

Date: 04/17/14 20:09 Re: Green River WY 1959 Back Again Author: coach During a long cross country rowing trip to Youth Nationals in Cincinnati in 2006 with our team trailer (full of expensive racing shells), I just had to get off I-80 and see this place. I actually found a safe place to park the trailer, then walked onto that bridge and enjoyed UP glory for about an hour. It was great. Wonderful part of America.
Afterwards, everyone wanted to know "what are those skinny things on your trailer? Missiles?" Yes, some people thought they were missiles. Date: 04/18/14 13:49 Re: Green River 1959 Author: timz Looks like a dome in the first pic?
If so, probably not the CoSF. Date: 04/18/14 14:20 Re: Green River 1959 Author: wag216 Looks like train #10, the City of St. Louis. Note that the 3rd unit is a F unit. I have shot those E-E-F sets of power on #9 & #10. wag216
Date: 04/18/14 16:24 Re: Green River 1959 Author: timz In 1959 the CoSF was due into Green River
at 1250 or 1255 MST, so if it's the one in the first pic it must be 18-20 hours late. Date: 04/18/14 17:36 Re: Green River 1959 Author: UP951West Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the COSF did not have a dome car, except when SP added one of those SP built 3/4 domes at Ogden for the rest of the trip to Oakland.

Rawlins, WY passenger enginemen worked between Rawlins and Green River. The Salt Lake City operating crews worked between Ogden, UT and Green River.

Also, there does appear to be a dome coach about six cars back, which would disqualify the City of San Francisco. But the third unit sure looks like an E8B or E9B. Dave |
