Back when UP had the contact, the unique train ran on the Shasta Route on Saturdays. Here's the northbound version crossing the Sacramento River in June of 2001.

Great photo! Looking back, both BNSF and UP had this service, and it's hard to believe it disappeared.

One time while at Tehachapi Loop, I saw this train coming uphill, southbound, around the Loop (this was back when the SP/UP was friendly about Loop access...). Well, there was 1 unit on the head end, a new SD-70. The train got all the way up around the Loop, then stalled at the east end of Walong switch. Engine roaring its guts out, and it stalled. 1 engine on a "high priority" train, on a tough piece of railroad. Maybe that's why the train disappeared? Service issues?

I think it disappeared because it is/was a logistical nightmare for swift!! Even triple crown is going away from road railers in favor of containers. If you can, get east while you can there days are numbered!!
