There really was a Black Rock
Author: wjpyper

We've all seen the great railroad shots in the movie Bad Day at Black Rock, which was filmed in the desert. I just found out that there really was a town called Black Rock. It was a logging town in Oregon, 3-miles west of Falls City. It was served by the Salem, FAlls City & Western Railway, which later became the SP Falls City Branch. The picture shows the Black Rock depot in 1919.

There is a Black Rock, Arkansas. BNSF's (former Frisco) Kansas City - Springfield - Memphis main line runs thru town.

Black Rock is also the border crossing town opposite Buffalo, NY. Spent a long spell there in the early 1980s while Canada Customs pulled a smuggler off a train.
