ATSF Railway Freight Office at Arkansas City, KS
Author: JoCoLB

Here is a photo of the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway freight office in Arkansas City, Kan., sometime between 1890-1900. I have no other information regarding the building's history. The picture is courtesy of the Kansas State Historical Society.

I remember a foundation and what must have a basement in the same area, but it's probably gone by now. It had trees growing out of it. This building might have sat about four blocks south of the crew office by looking at on Google Earth. In the photo there was a street crossing north of it, and what looks like a wide alley or street behind it, but I think the underpass was put in there later to eliminate the crossing.

I believe the building was still there as late as 1978. I think I have a slide runnin' around here someplace. (how 'bout you, Bob-a-loo??)
