I'm thinking the lower-quadrant set is the CNW's for track running mostly horizontal through the image. The MILW's are the upper-quadrant set and the appropriate rails. Both sets of rails look to be pretty well buried in the prairie.. IIRC, didn't the IC(G)'s Cherokee-Sioux Falls line cross at an angle across both the CNW and MILW, probably behind the depot here by a few hundred feet?

The IC/G crossed the CNW about 100' to the north of the depot, though. are still with us. The CNW, former CMStP&O, now UP, and the CMStP&P, now CP with several recent antecedents are still there, although I think the CP is stubbed east of the crossing. Only the ICG, it's former Sioux Falls branch, is gone. Nick Tharalson, Marion,IA |
