Author: edsaalig Did the Reading Company Locomotive Shops on the Reading Railroad ever become the Conrail car shops in Reading, Pennsylvania? If so on what date did that take place? Thank You.

As I recall, the Reading shops did survive for a few years into Conrail, but by the early 1980s the shops and the hump yard were closed. The facility sat pretty much intact - including the large coal dock - until the 1990s. CR parked their unneeded 40-foot boxcars along the Reading for miles and miles east of Reading in the late 1970s.
