Nostalgia & History > N&W Eastbound Bloomington IL 1970ish

An N&W eastbound is about to cross the GM&O double main at Bloomington, IL some 40 years ago. Next to the ex-NKP tracks is the Penn Central. And just past the trailing unit is another crossover, the GM&O's "Jack Line", the western extension that went to Jacksonville, Roodhouse and on to Kansas City. The line split at Roodhouse and would connect with the main line north of Alton, and another split at San Jose going into Peoria or south to Sherman, just north of Springfield. Today the PC [ex-P&E] line is gone and the Jack Line only goes maybe a mile to a feed mill.

Boy that pic brings back great memories growing up there. I never saw much action on the N&W but did see the P&E/NYC more often. Thanks for sharing another great photo.

Now that is railroading...

You didn't happen to get any pics from inside BN did you? I have I think one in my collection from the CMNW days. I didn't realize that the little building had controls up to Normal and the IC connection at that time, if I remember correctly. The normal depot had been long torn down by that time.

Somewhere I think I have a couple of slides that I took inside but no clue as to where they might be. When I find them I'll post 'em.
