SLORRM Caboose Restoration
Author: wjpyper

The San Luis Obispo Railroad Museum is beginning the restoration of Southern Pacific Railroad bay window caboose #1886. This is a C-50-4 car, built by International Car Co. in June 1972.
We need the water spout/valve for a crew water cooler/refrigerator. This cooler has "Ajax" stamped in the upper corner. The cooler/refrigerator had a water bottle on the top, held in place by a metal bracket behind the bottle. We need at least one bottle to go on the cooler and would like to have 3 additional bottles to go in the in the water bottle storage rack.

Does anyone know where we can find these bottles? Photos would be helpful. So far we have only been able to find a single photo in a Tony Thompson Freight Car book.

If anybody has any information that can help us please contact Brad LaRose, President/Curator, San Luis Obispo Railroad Museum blarose@co.slo.ca.us

Ajax Consolidated was the manufacturer of those caboose water coolers. They also supplied the classic wood-slat venetian blinds for many pre and post-war passenger cars.

I'm sure you would get a good response if you posted this over on Railway Preservation News:

I have two glass water cooler jugs from the 70s if you want them.

If the SLORRM doesn't,t want them the we would like second bid. The Depot Park Museum in Sonoma Ca is also in the process of restoring SP CABOOSE 1130 and it is missing the water bottles . Where are you located? Thanks for reading.
