Time for a SP Break
Author: TTM

Ralph Buhr caught SP 1413, an NW2, in nice light setting at Oakland on Dec 30, 1953.

Thanks for looking,

Tom

Is there a possibility that is an SW7? It is missing the 'two-step' slope in front of the cab.

SP 1413 is a late NW2 built in 1949. Late NW2's had a straight taper to the hood instead of the earlier two-step design.

NW2's had half-height radiators like the unit shown. SW7's had full-height radiators.

Get out to the Niles Canyon Railway and smell "Tiger Stripe" SP 1423 on most operating days! :-)
