WP Bieber train

WP U23B #2265 leads a mix of BN units at James, Ca. back in 1974. This eastbound train is destined for the connection with the BN at Bieber, Ca.

Cool "one of everything" BN consist so common back in the 70's. Even a U33C thrown in for good measure.

Wow that's a very cool shot I love the 2 GE's and 3 EMD's a rouges gallery of units to boot!

U23B, F45, GP30, SD45, U33C how many times do you think that mix was all together in a consist?

Just a few miles out of Oroville, Ca on hiway 70 just before the bridge over part of the lake. You can see the big loop in the tracks, that's James Siding.

UP owns this line now. Union Pacific bought the WP in 1983.

James siding can be seen from Highway 70 1/4 mile east of Pentz Rd. And this is about 10 miles east of Oroville Ca. The line is owned by the UPRR and sees a few UP trains everyday and is also the mainline route for all of the BNSF Gateway trains.

BNSF does have trackage rights through this scene, they turn north at the Keddie Wye and continue over the Gateway Sub to Klamath Falls and then into Oregon, then Washington. Somewhere from 4 to 8 BNSF trains in 24 hours, not so many in daylight hours though.

The Feather River Canyon and the Gateway Sub are covered by RR radio:
