A Little More Yooper Railroading
Author: WrongMain

1. The Lake Superior & Ishpeming is primarily an ore hauler operating out of Marquette and Eagle Mills, MI in the Upper Peninsula. They were known for their fleet of ex Santa Fe Alligators, but they had other Alco's and also the first run of U23C's. Here, RSD12 1852 leaves Eagle Mills headed west on Sept 25, 1979.

2. The Wisconsin Central inherited several branches in the U.P., including the L'Anse branch. A GP30 still in Soo Line paint leads another 30 in fresh WC colors back into the yard at L'Anse. Sept 22, 1989.

3. The Northwestern was known for having some pretty interesting power working the docks and ore trains at Escanaba, MI. C628 6722 has two more big Alco's for company back on Oct 3, 1982.

Picture #2 would have been on the route of the Milw-Soo Line Copper Country Ltd.

Here is a couple of shots I took at the Cotton Belt Museum of LS&I 2300 U23C, not the best because of crowded access. Is this the last remaining one of the U23Cs?

Did anyone else notice the GP30s shown in photo #2 are some
of those the Soo Line had built with trucks recycled from Alco FAs?
If I recall correctly, the SOO 700 at the Lake Superior Railroad
Museum in Duluth is one of those also.

All of the SOO GP30's were delivered wearing the trucks from FA's and so did the first GP35 delivered.
