This car was in Denver on Aug. 17, 1974 .... I'm sure someone can fill in it's history ...

thanks for that ... the Forney site at http://www.forneyarchive.com/ has the detailed history and a very comprehensive series of pictures including a sad shot in 1999 and some shots of a terrific recent restoration. David Barth is credited with the info and pictures on Forney web site. The car was built in 1902 by Pullman.

About that car I always wondered: if life is so good in Illinois, why is the car in Denver? Gerry

A little history on Polk Brothers; http://www.mygola.com/polk-bros-foundation-p23366 It's interesting that the Forney museum decided to preserve the car in the Polk Brothers scheme. Looks like they did a great job!

I remember Polk Brothers. It seemed like you couldn't get away from their advertising if you lived in ChicagoLand back in the '60's & '70's. They were the biggest TV and appliance store in the midwest, kind of like Best Buy. Only back then, when you went to their stores, the salesmen came looking for you, not the other way around like it is today at the big box.

And the equipment was made better. You didn't have to buy a warranty and take it back three times.
