Nostalgia & History > The Lone Star at Cleburne,Tx -- Oct 76Date: 08/31/14 14:44 The Lone Star at Cleburne,Tx -- Oct 76 Author: gcm (1) The Santa Fe Cleburne shops was still a busy place back in 1976 as the southbound Lone Star arrives at the station.
(2) Not to long after this day Amtrak removed one of the SDP40F units and the lounge car south of Ft. Worth. I'm not sure about the baggage car but the rest were ex-ATSF cars. (3) #8036 the diner was an old one. Built in 1942 for the Santa Fe. Date: 08/31/14 15:28 Re: The Lone Star at Cleburne,Tx -- Oct 76 Author: bnsfbob gcm Wrote:

Not a good sign when the shades are drawn on the sunny side of the car. Track conditions were so uncharacteristically Santa Fe-bad in Texas in the 1970s. Date: 08/31/14 18:27 Re: The Lone Star at Cleburne,Tx -- Oct 76 Author: railaddict At this point only a sleeper and high level coach were removed at FTW to go to Dallas. An E-unit operated to pull these two cars from FTW and Dallas Union Station via the MoPac, fomer T&P. Later, the lounge car and one of the two SDP40's were also removed at FTW, leaving only one locomotive and five cars FTW-HOU...Baggage, sleeper, diner, and two Hi-Levels.
