Every major city across the USA has tracks like these where lots of old industries were once served by rail. The major railroads do not want to serve these small industries if they are still around and in many cases the industries have either moved away or gone out of business. Baltimore still has a lot of tracks like those, especially over in east Baltimore where many industries used to be located.

Has most of this trackage officially been abandoned, or is it just considered out of service?

I enjoyed seeing these images more than normal as I can't recall ever driving around the warehouse district. I would look down while driving on I-280 and just go on by. Shame on me.

All these industrial track shots prove why Bayshore was packed with cars in the 60s and 70s from inbound and outbound trains plus awaiting industrial pacement

Just about all of what he's posted is the district we used to call "15th Ave", which is on the ocean side of the main lines between tunnels 3 and 2. Formerly a US Army arsenal/armory grounds, it was served by both the WP and SP, and in my day (late 60s to mid 1970s), the only place we went with any regularity was Grossgean's (speling?) Mill near Evans and Napoleon. SP's connection came of the EB opposite the Quint St lead, ran westerly parallel the main lines toward Evans, eventaully forming an almost complete loop, the end of track coming very close to the main lines, the end of it being somewhere in the vicinity of McKinnon and Rankin. Whenever you went there, you had to watch out for the WP.

These pics remind me of the C&Os Pole Job switching district in Columbus Ohio.

He makes good comments below. From what I found on TO, the SP crossed the WP lines at the diamond. SP lines were the ones in the alley.
