In the distance you can see the roof of the substation ahead and the three story hotel building to the left. The depot is in dark colors and to the left of the depot we have a corner of the bunkhouse. The other buildings were gone by the 1970s.

NICE photo, any attribution? Heading to Avery next week to get some photos of the Twin Grove #185 that they have cosmetically restored. Sold to them by the Pacific Northwest Chapter, NRHS back in 2004 I believe. Arlen

More Avery information, elevation 2486', current population 25 major attraction is the fish pond where you feed the lunker trout. I suspect cell phone connections may be sketchy or non existent.

This would be an eastbound, and the boxcabs have just coupled on. The engineer will drop the pan, switch to the leading cab and raise its pan for his trip over the Continental Divide.

The incoming steam engineer had stopped the train short of the order board, which also serves as the home block for the manual block signal system then in use on the Rocky Mountain Div. The boxcabs' engineer will get his clearance card and orders, the signal will raise and go to white and he's off on his way.

Snowing quite hard, but rather warm for January 4 - the snow is melting on rooftops and platforms faster than its accumulating.

Milwaukee didn't always paint their depots two tone grey, or maroon and orange.

I know him pretty well, but I'm not sure if he's still on TO or not. I've messaged him.
