Over The Hump
Author: Norris

It was quiet on Bly Mountain Hill as I faced East at 12:30 PM Oct 23, 1980. However one could hear the faint sound of prime movers in the distance. We are on the pass about 20 miles east of Klamath Falls, Oregon on the Oregon,California and Eastern.

1,2,3) About 45 minutes later a deafening throbbing sound overwhelms me as a modified U25B slug bracketed by Mk modified U25B's with #MO prime movers approaches the East Switchback.

4,5,6) Westbound OC+E Logger completing the horseshoe curve with the train a few hundred yards down the hill from the West Switchback.

I have a difficult time adjusting to change. It is hard for me to believe that the Sycan line to the 500 transfer is gone as well as the shops at Beatty and the whole O,C+E back to Klamath Falls. Now the Weyerheuser Corporation is finished with all railroad operations.

I believe they had 567 prime movers but I could be wrong.
