Nostalgia & History > SP 7551 first SP SPSF KodachromeDate: 09/14/14 06:33 SP 7551 first SP SPSF Kodachrome Author: qnyla Back in August 1985, the first Kodachrome paint on the SP side of the ill-fated SPSF was applied to SD45R 7551 at Sacramento. Shown on display at CSRM a few days later. This unit was destroyed in 1989 in a wreck on Cajon. The "SP" lettering on later units was yellow and the cigar band had three stripes.

I found a couple photos of the 7551, I think it was on rrfallenflags.org, in full SPSF lettering and heard somewhere it was painted like that for just a day or two. I've seen several of Santa Fe 7219 in the full lettering but only one of SF 7221. Thanks for sharing.
