Nostalgia & History > A Santa Fe depot at Melvern, Kan., in 1956Date: 09/14/14 18:16 A Santa Fe depot at Melvern, Kan., in 1956 Author: JoCoLB Here's a photo of the former ATSF Railway depot at Melvern, Kan., on the Emporia Sub. The photo was taken in 1956.
I have a question. Was there only one main line track through Melvern decades ago. If so, when was the second main constructed? Cool shots. Bob Date: 09/14/14 18:52 Re: A Santa Fe depot at Melvern, Kan., in 1956 Author: bnsfbob I think the second photo is taken from an eastward train or engine on the south main. What you are seeing is the north main and the turnout for the center track. The center track was more of a long connector than a siding.
