Nostalgia & History > Maroon Monday -- Reengined RS2s

CR&P had 5 RS2s. All were repowered with EMD engines and became RS2ms. Here are pictures of two.

1. #451 was built in September 1948 and repowered in July 1957. On September 1, 1969 it had a couple cars and an outsided braced caboose and was about to pass Joliet Union Station.

2. #454 was on a caboose hop with an outsided braced caboose in Blue Island, IL on June 24, 1977. Built in 1948, I could find no repowering date.

I was waiting to start posting pictures taken by my best friend/railfan partner but this posting has made me decide to post one of his images. John Playter and I took many shots of bay area railroads in the late sixties and early seventies when John moved to Southern California where he continued his railfan activities. We would get together on trips particularly until 1977 when I got married. John was the victim of a Ford Explorer rollover accident in 2001. I was given many of his slides which I have finally started to scan. This is one of them.
