This movie was filmed in 1954 at Newhall, Ca., on the SP's Los Angeles Division, and has a decent amount of train scenes in it, including the Newhall Station itself.

Bottom line, if you like SP "Black Widows", it is worth a look.

It is on Turner Classic Movies at 1:00 PM EST/10:00 AM PST.

I've watched it (or at least parts) a couple of times. There are some good SP scenes, yes, and Frank Sinatra plays a pretty nasty would-be assassin.

Another recommend. Excellent RR scenes, and enjoyable movie to watch in general.

It's actually Saugus Station.

This is the movie that Charlie Steffens wrote about in his book and about what a stud Sinatra was between shots

TCM Movie Alert II

Another recent movie at TCM was "College Holliday" (1936), which featured a lengthy scene of Burns & Allen in a Roman chariot racing against an SP train in the San Fernando Valley. It also had considerable footage of one of UP early Streamliners (M1000? can't remember), including interior shots, which appeared to be mostly sets. The train stuff takes place in the first thirty minutes, or so, for those that have a low tolerance for slapstick. Personally, I thought that it was a fun flick. Cast members included Jack Benny, Martha Raye, Ben Blue, with a brief, uncredited appearance of Eddie Foy, Jr. in a dance scene. Though you would never know it now, 1936 crowds recognized that it subtly made fools of the Nazis' for their use of the "science" of Eugenics in the selective breeding of their Master Race.

Suddenly was an interesting movie...with a big plot hole. Any threat against the POTUS would prob. cause him to not even be on that train...What if Frankie had a Bazooka??

Perhaps, but remember back in those days I don't think presidential security was what it is now. I think that Truman, for example, just took the train back to Missouri when he left office. He and his wife took a vacation by car and stayed with friends. That is, at least, what I recall from an article or book review that I read.

It still makes me squeamish to see Sterling Hayden run in front of the F7 while it grinds to a halt. I even noticed that the first time I saw the movie when I was a kid...
