Nostalgia & History > WAG Wednesday: Great Western farm animals!Date: 09/17/14 10:47 WAG Wednesday: Great Western farm animals! Author: santafe199 It's not exactly a rodeo here but in this railfan roundup Bill Gibson did record some 'bovine' action in Kansas City a few years back. Here are a couple scenes of a CGW cow & calf set taken about 3 years apart.
1. CGW 62 cow & calf taken April 24, 1959. 2. The same set on January 22, 1962. (2 photos taken in Kansas City, KS by William A. [Bill] Gibson Sr.) Thanks for looking back! Both shots show this cow & calf set coupled up to reefers filled with meat (or heading back to Iowa for another load). Love CGW photos. Post more if you've got 'em. - Norm Date: 09/17/14 11:13 Re: WAG Wednesday: Great Western farm animals! Author: Gateway97 Not only is that combo great, but that Swift's Premium reefer is neat to see. The Hocking Valley Scenic Ry. has one just like that in the siding at Haydenville, Oh.

JB Date: 09/17/14 14:08 Re: WAG Wednesday: Great Western farm animals! Author: ns2557 Nice set of shot's. Note the Swift Refrigerator Car in the 2nd shot. There is one left in Cooperstown Jct Ny. Shot one this last week there. Here is a shot of it there. Number is 25008.
Nice to see it in much "fresher" paint. Thanks for sharing. Ben Date: 09/17/14 18:14 Re: WAG Wednesday: Great Western farm animals! Author: ironmtn Really liking the Bovine Action there, Lance. Just total wow. Wonderful images, both the bovines and the related cousin reefers behind them (unless they were carrying Swift's Premium pork, and if so, we can overlook that).
Thanks much for such a 'meaty' post. MC Columbia, Missouri Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/17/14 18:15 by ironmtn. Date: 09/17/14 23:04 Re: WAG Wednesday: Great Western farm animals! Author: mp51w ironmtn Wrote:

There used to be a Swift reefer car at the quarry East of Rochelle, IL when I worked near there in the late 70's. Date: 09/18/14 04:28 Re: WAG Wednesday: Great Western farm animals!
