Nostalgia & History > Northern Pacific Twin Cities' Locomotive FacititiesDate: 09/17/14 20:56 Northern Pacific Twin Cities' Locomotive Facitities Author: MartyBernard Here are two photographs of Northern Pacific's locomotive facilities in St. Paul and Minneapolis in June 1964.
The first is of their engine house in St. Paul. NW2 113 is peeking out while brand new U25C 2503 looks on. The second is of their roundhouse in Minneapolis (Northtown Yard ?). It looks like the garden tracks had already became an employee parking lot. There are a couple of first generation geeps (probably GP9s) hiding beside the roundhouse and a switcher beyond. NP had 276 GP9s but only 20 GP7s. But it had a zillion F units, FTs through F9s, and not one E-unit. It had one EMC NW built in 1938 and a switcher fleet of NW2s, SW7s, SW9s, and SW1200s. While the diesel locomotive fleet was mainly EMD builts, there were handfuls of Alcos, Baldwins, and GEs. But the first and last diesel they bought came from Electro-Motive. The last was an SD45. I am going back in the threads and looking for your name to make sure I haven't missed any of your NP postings. Rick Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/18/14 00:34 by rschonfelder. By the way, the Monad in the last picture is upside down. Date: 09/18/14 06:59 Re: Northern Pacific Twin Cities' Locomotive Facitities Author: UPJeff Marty,
Is that were the Holiday Inn is now that incorporates part of the shops? I remember staying there and the tracks are still in some of the floors. Jeff Smith Lakewood, CA RailMaster Hobbies Date: 09/18/14 07:56 Re: Northern Pacific Twin Cities' Locomotive Facitities Author: ntharalson UPJeff Wrote:

I believe you're asking about the Bandana Square development which was part of the Como Shops complex which was a car shop. Someone more conversant with the NP will have to describe what kind of car shop. The top view is of the Mississippi Street Shops in St. Paul, and Marty is correct that #2 is Northtown. All ETTS.
