Nostalgia & History > PRR - Rockville bridge questionDate: 09/28/14 17:24 PRR - Rockville bridge question Author: 611Doug Given that the Rockville bridge and the PRR Enola yards were completed 1902-1910, how did southbound trains coming off the Sunbury line enter the Enola yard? To my research there was no connection, from the west end of the bridge, into the Enola yard until 1939. Did these trains go west into Marysville and then back south into the Enola yard?
Thanks Doug Date: 09/28/14 22:05 Re: PRR - Rockville bridge question Author: onblock Yes. Of course, Marysville was the site of the Northern Central freight yard, which predated Enola. Prior to moving its traffic to the Rockville Bridge, the Northern Central crossed the river at Dauphin, where the ruins of the bridge piers still exist, and one pier even supports the Statue of Liberty (Dauphin version). Eventually, Marysville was downgraded as a classification yard, and the direct-to-Enola connection was added to the Rockville Bridge in the late 1930s.
